About

One team designs it, makes it and installs it

ULVANHOME is a manufacturing workshop rather than a fitting company. Carcass, veneer and lacquer happen under one roof, and the team that arrives on site has known the job from the start.

Why our own workshop

Sending production out means you cannot control quality. The thickness of a lacquer, the edging on a carcass, the width of a shadow joint — these are decided at the machine or not at all. That is why no stage is subcontracted.

Why we survey it ourselves

Walls are not straight, floors are not level, and a ceiling can drop two centimetres from one end of a room to the other. That is what bespoke is for: making to the room as it actually is. Asking a client for measurements is asking them to own the error.

Why a written quote

When scope, materials, quantities and dates are not written down, a disagreement is only a matter of time. Our quote says plainly what is included and what is not, and no line appears afterwards.

Why it does not end at installation

A snagging list is made at handover, and the job is not finished until it is closed. If a front drifts out of alignment later, the hinge is adjusted rather than the front replaced, and there is no charge for it.

The comparison

Three ways to do this, and all of them are legitimate

There are three ways to get a kitchen made: a modular system, a joiner agreed with over the phone, or a workshop that surveys, designs, makes and installs. Which is right depends on your budget and the scale of the job. What follows is how the three methods differ — about methods, not about anybody's work.

  • Where the measurements come from

    Modular system
Catalogue sizes. The difference is closed with a filler panel or silicone.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Usually from you — the numbers you read out on the phone.
    This workshop
We survey it ourselves, free. If the wall is out, the scribe is in the drawing.
  • What you are approving

    Modular system
The display unit in the showroom, and a layout plan.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Often a verbal agreement and a sketch.
    This workshop
Drawings, a material list and an itemised written quote. Nothing is made before you sign it off.
  • If you change your mind

    Modular system
Easy inside the system; outside it, not possible.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Once making has started it becomes a negotiation.
    This workshop
Unlimited revisions at the design stage, free. After that we tell you the cost in writing.
  • Who chooses the material

    Modular system
    The palette the catalogue offers.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Usually whatever the joiner's supplier stocks.
    This workshop
You do. Choose from our material index; the joiner brings the palette set to the survey and you handle it in your own light.
  • Who installs it

    Modular system
A contracted fitting team. Not the person who measured.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Usually the person who made it — the strongest part of that method.
    This workshop
The team that surveyed it. Information lost in between is the expensive part.
  • If a door needs adjusting a year later

    Modular system
Responsibility sits between the seller and the fitting team.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
Sorted, if you can reach the joiner.
    This workshop
You call us. Because the maker and the fitter are the same, there is no argument about whose problem it is.
  • When it is the right choice

    Modular system
When your dimensions are close to catalogue sizes and time matters.
    Joiner, agreed by phone
A single piece, a clear brief, and a craftsman you already know.
    This workshop
When the room does not fit, when the job spans rooms, or when you want the responsibility in writing.

To be plain about it: a modular system is faster and cheaper. If your dimensions are close to catalogue sizes and time matters to you, it is the right choice. Bespoke earns its cost when the room does not fit, or when fitting it costs something.
